Sorry for such a long time between posts, but Linda and I have been crazy busy and dealing with injuries. Which makes this post even more timely. Enjoy!
Neil & Linda
We all want to recover faster and better, whether it be from an illness, an injury or the self-inflicted wreckage that comes from a kickass CrossFit WOD. There are fair bit of things we do physically to recover, such as trigger point release work, massage, meditation, accupuncture… all with great results (though don’t do the massage if you’re coming down with a cold or flu…it’ll come on gangbusters!).
Food really is medicine, as the Chinese and Indians (from India) believe. And turmeric is finally getting the attention from the Western health practitioners that it deserves. Read below:
“Turmeric contains curcumin, the polyphenol identified as its primary active component and which exhibits over 150 potentially therapeutic activities, which include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.
Anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, antiseptic,analgesic,.
Helps maintain cholesterol levels.
Promotes digestive health.
Regulates metabolism and weight management.
High blood pressure.
Memory and brain function.
Various skin conditions.
Adding black pepper to turmeric or turmeric-spiced food enhances curcumin’s bioavailability by 1,000 times, due to black pepper’s hot property called piperine. Yup by mixing turmeric and black pepper together, you increase your body’s absorption of the turmeric by 2000%!”
RECIPE 1: TURMERIC TEA
Drink this tea twice a day, morning and night. It’s warming and sweet.
1/3 C raw honey
2 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
organic black pepper
2 tsp lemon juice
MIX honey and turmeric in a small bowl.
HEAT 1C water and add 2tsp honey/turmeric mixture.
STIR and add a little black pepper and lemon juice.
Golden Milk is a wonderful beverage to have in the evening and the benefits are extraordinary.
Step 1: Turmeric Paste
1/4 C turmeric powder, organic
1/2 tsp ground pepper
1/2 C filtered water
MIX all ingredients in a small sauce pan and stir well.
TURN the heat to Medium High and stir constantly until the mixture is a thick paste. This does not take long so don’t walk away from the pan.
COOL the mixture and keep it in a small jar in the fridge.
Step 2: Golden Milk
1 C of almond milk (hemp or coconut are also good options)
1 tsp coconut oil
1/4 tsp or more turmeric paste
COMBINE all the ingredients, except honey in a saucepan.
HEAT to medium. While heating make sure to stir constantly and do not allow the mixture to boil.
ADD honey to taste.
